Amit Shah meets top security officials The government had not expected such a huge protest against the act: Official

Union home minister Amit Shah TT, 20.12.19, New Delhi: Union home minister Amit Shah met top security officials on Thursday night and reviewed the security situation in the wake of the nationwide protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.
“The government had not expected such a huge protest against the act,” a ministry official said.

Shah’s deputy, G. Kishan Reddy, accused Opposition parties of fuelling the protests. “Some political parties are fuelling protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act. They are inciting women, students and others in the name of religion,” he said.

Reddy said parties were spreading misinformation and students should not fall into the trap. “I want to appeal to students to first read the CAA before coming to the streets. It’s not against any Indian,” he told reporters said.

“No rules for the Citizenship (Amendment) Act have been drafted. The rules will be framed as soon as there is normality in all states,” Reddy said.
