Kurseong to hold tour fest next month

TT, 22 November 2019, Siliguri: A three-day tourism festival will be organised in Kurseong from December 13 to promote the hill town located around 50km from here.

"A number of tourism-related activities have come up in and around Kurseong, the town known as the `land of white orchid.' We have decided to promote Kurseong and its surroundings through `Destination Kurseong 2020 Tourist Festival'. It will be the first-of-its kind fest," said Rudhir Gurung, a core committee member of the Kurseong Tourism and Social Development Society.

The society, along with the tourism department of the GTA, is organising the event.

According to the organisers, around 100 homestays have come up in and around the town in recent years. A number of resorts also opened up in the town.

Moreover, Kurseong that boasts a number of major educational institutions is all set to get the second campus of the Presidency University. "However, no initiative was taken for the promotion the hill town so far," said a hotel owner in Kurseong.

During the fest, competitions like mountain biking and marathon, and cultural shows and display of local cuisine have been planned.

The organisers pointed out that Darjeeling and Kalimpong had got their own identities among tourists. Even the little hill town of Mirik is popular among visitors.
