Kanhaiya NRC invite to Didi
BIRESWAR BANERJEE, TT, 16 Nov 2019, Siliguri: Kanhaiya Kumar, CPI leader and former JNU student union president, on Thursday "welcomed" chief minister Mamata Banerjee to a movement against the BJP's plans to implement NRC in Bengal and other parts of the country.
"Most political parties have taken a stand on NRC throughout the country. If the chief minister of Bengal has made any political resolution against it, she should take it to common people. If the "Mamata didi's" government wants to work on the issue, we would welcome her," Kanhaiya said.
He was in Siliguri on Friday to attend a meeting convened by the Joint Forum Against NRC -- a pan-Bengal body floated to protest the NRC.
After the final list of NRC in Assam, central ministers and state leaders of BJP have time and again said that they want it to be implemented in Bengal and gradually in other parts of the country.
"We want to make it clear Kanhaiya Kumar in Siliguri on Friday. (Passang Yolmo) that our movement is not to make any achievements in electoral politics but to protest the proposed exercise that has created a chaos across our country," said Kanhaiya.
Kanhaiya, who arrived here from hometown Begusarai in Bihar, castigated the BJP. "BJP leaders are playing divisive politics to build up support by trying to indulge in non-issues," he said.
According to him, the NRC exercise in Assam has not only triggered panic in Bengal but its effects have been noticed in many other cities and towns of India, including Delhi, Bangalore and Pune..
