Gurung cases combined

TT, 20 Nov 2019, Calcutta: The high court has decided to club together 176 criminal cases against Gorkha Janmukti Morcha leader Bimal Gurung and start daily hearing from November 25.

Justice Joymalya Bagchi will hear the cases against Gurung and his associates. Gurung has been on the run since August 15, 2015.

Chief Justice T.B.N. Radhakrishnan announced on Tuesday that the day-to-day hearing of the cases would start from "next Monday".

According to court sources, most of the criminal cases that Gurung and his colleagues in the Morcha faced were lodged during the violent Gorkhaland agitation in 2017.

The cases against Gurung mostly involve destruction of public properties.

An important case against Gurung is related to the murder of Akhil Bharatiya Gorkha League leader Madan Tamang. It is to be seen if the fugitive Morcha leader will surface during the hearing of the cases.
