BAM demands separate state and implementation of the NRC in Bengal.

TT, 27 August 2019,  Jalpaiguri: Leaders and supporters of the Bhumiputra Aikya Mancha -- a common forum floated by the Kamtapur Progressive Party and Greater Cooch Behar Peoples' Association -- walked up to the office of the district magistrate here on Monday and submitted a memorandum addressed to the Prime Minister, demanding separate state and implementation of the National Register of Citizens in Bengal.

"We want the Centre to consider our demand for separate statehood. This would largely help in socio-economic development of the Rajbanshis residing north Bengal. Also, NRC should be implemented in the region like Assam," said Bangshibadan Burman, chairman of the Mancha.

The Mancha was recently formed with Burman and Atul Roy, the KPP president, at its helm
