Rs 5 crore for road to Buxa Fort
A helipad will be renovated and new toilet blocks will be built. Besides, landscaping will be undertaken near the fort.
The initiative, sources said, is an attempt to attract more tourists to the fort. From Santlabari, one needs to trek uphill for around 5km to reach the fort that was the detention centre of freedom fighters during the British rule.
On Sunday, Surendranath Meena, the district magistrate of Alipurduar, walked up to the fort with some officials. "We have received Rs 5 core to develop the infrastructure in the Buxa hill. The road from Santlabari to the Buxa Fort will be developed, and beautification would be carried out on either side of the road. There is a temporary helipad which will also be renovated," he said..
