MPs' tea grouse to Centre
VIVEK CHHETRI, TT, 03 Aug 2019, Darjeeling: The BJP MPs of Darjeeling, Alipurduar and Jalpaiguri have requested the Centre to constitute an "expert committee" to examine the issues plaguing the tea industry and resolve them swiftly.
Darjeeling MP Raju Bista and his counterpart from Alipurduar, John Barla, and Jalpaiguri, Jayanta Kumar Roy, on Friday called on Piyush Goyal, the Union minister for commerce and railways, in Delhi.
"The MPs informed the minister about the sorry state of the tea industry in North Bengal. In particular, they highlighted the sufferings of the tea garden workers. They informed the minister how tea garden workers are the lowest paid industrial workers in the nation, and how they are subjected to numerous forms of exploitations," a media statement from Bista's office said..
