GNLF wing for complaints

The GNLF move came days after Mamata Banerjee's "Didi Ke Bolo (Tell Didi)" initiative and a WhatsApp complaint cell of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha's Binay Tamang camp.
The new frontal organisation of the party has been named GNLF Janchetna Sangrash Samity and consists of 15 members with Manjila Tamang as its president.
Ajoy Edwards, president of the GNLF's Darjeeling Branch Committee, said the thrust would be to stem corruption in the hills.
"Earlier, Manjila Tamang and her team were raising issues concerning hospital and schools but that was being done under the banner of the Gorkha National Women Organisation. We have now formed a new frontal organisation to raise the voice of the common people," said Edwards.
The GNLF said that over the years, the "silent majority" was unable to raise their voice in the hills. "For many years, the common people, the silent majority had no voice. It was difficult to raise one's voice even when (contract) works were not being properly executed," said Edwards.
On corruption, the GNLF leader said: "It is because of corruption that the hills have not been able to move forward. If people ask you for commission, cut money, even on issues like renewing licenses, please inform usEdwards announced that the party would soon announce a WhatsApp number and open a Facebook page for complaints.
"If villagers find that construction work is not being done properly in their places, please inform us. We will approach the concerned department and will also meet the contractors," said Edwards, adding they were ready to address all issues, right from recruitment to other day-to-day issues concerning the common public.
Edwards had recently urged people not to give cut money. "We are hearing that con- tractors have to give 10 per cent to leaders of a political party....engineers take 5 per cent.
We will stage dharnas if such practices continue," Edwards said.
On Friday, Tamang had unveiled a WhatsApp number of the party and had appealed to people to post their complaints.
A few months back, the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) had announced a similar initiative.
