Book on Nepali language movement released
Bhasha Andolan: Itihaas ra Upalabhdi, a book penned by an eminent writer Subash Sotang from Gorubathan, was released from different places through this week.
The book which chronicles the history and achievement of the nearly four-decade-long struggle for recognition of Nepali language in the Eight Schedule of the Constitution was released simultaneously from Siliguri and Delhi on August 18, 2019.
On August 20, a similar event was organised in Gorubathan in Kalimpong district where Sotang was invited as the key speaker. This was followed by another event in Kurseong on August 22. The event in Siliguri was organised jointly by the Siliguri Khetria Samiti, Mahila Parisangh and Mangal Maiti Charitable Trust at Mangal Maiti Bhavan. Renowned proponent of the language movement, Gokul Sinha released the book in the presence of prominent writers, like Prem Pradhan, Mimlal Sapkota, and Milan Bantawa and social workers like Sukman Moktan. The Delhi event was organised by the GSSS, an apolitical organisation, on the occasion of Nepali Bhasha Diwas in the presence of proponents of Nepali language, including Uttam Kumar Chettri, Dharmaraj Thapa, Alfred Rai, Prabhu Chhetri and Anjani Sharma. The Kurseong event which was held at Kurseong College was graced by writers Jas Yonzone "Pyasi", Samir Bal, principal, Kurseong College, Tara Lohar, head of department, Nepali, among others.
