Three men claim to be newborns father at hospital
On Tuesday, the mother said the father of the baby was her husband and the confusion ended after three day of drama at the hospital.
According to sources, on Saturday, an expectant woman identified as Swapna Maitra got admitted at the private hospital. While she getting admitting, a person identified as Dipankar Pal mentioned himself as her husband on the admission documents. Maitra gave birth to a girl child on Sunday.
A twist in the situation occurred on Sunday afternoon when a person identified as Harsh Chhetri reached the hospital and claimed himself as the father of the newborn.
He also came up with a marriage certificate with the woman to substantiate his claim. As the hospital authority got confused, Netaji Nagar police station was informed about the situation. The security in front of Maitra's cabin was also stepped up. No one other than hospital staff and doctors were allowed to enter the cabin.
After the police saw the marriage certificate and was almost convinced about Chhetri's claim, it was decided that a final inspection will be done after talking to Maitra. Police officers had wait to get a change to interact with her as Maitra was unwell.
When the police and hospital authority were hopeful that the problem had been solved, another man who identified himself as Pradip Roy arrived at the hospital and claimed that he was the father of the baby on Monday. But before police could reach, he left the hospital saying that he would return with proof. A police picket was set up outside the woman's cabin. On Tuesday, when police were mulling to conduct a DNA test of the baby, police officers were told that Maitra's health condition was stable, they could talk to her. During questioning, Maitra said Chhetri was the father of the baby and she deliberately planned this drama to teach Chhetri a lesson over some personal problem with him.
However, the last person who claimed to be the father of the newborn could not be traced. Deputy Commissioner, South Suburban Division, Sudeep Sarkar said: "The matter has been settled. No case has been lodged.
