More buses set for Darjeeling

TT, 15 June 2019, Siliguri: The North Bengal State Transport Corporation will run additional buses from Siiguri to Darjeeling and Kalimpong from Saturday.

The decision was taken here at a meeting held by state tourism minister Gautam Deb with officials of the transport department.

"There is an unprecedented rush of tourists to Darjeeling, Kalimpong and adjoining areas in the hills. To provide them with additional options for transport, we have decided to run more buses from Siliguri to the hills. From Saturday, seven buses will run between Siliguri and Darjeeling and another five buses will run on the Siliguri-Kalimpong route," said Deb.

As of now, four NBSTC buses are operated between Siliguri and Darjeeling and another two move between Siliguri and two buses run between Siliguri and Kalimpong.

"Apart from these buses, a bus of our department will run on the Siliguri-Darjeeling route from Monday," the minister said.

According to sources in the tourism department, the summer tourist season ends by the middle of May every year. But because of the recent Lok Sabha polls, the season has extended till the third week of June.

There is hardly any vacant room at hotels and lodges at the hill stations as thousands of tourists from different parts of the country and abroad are visiting the hills..
