 Tourism Minister Goutam Deb paid a visit at the nursing home in Siliguri where SI Gurung is undergoing treatment. The Minister stated that a medical board has been constituted. “His condition is reported critical. The medical board is meeting to decide on the procedures involved in the surgery” added Deb.

A large police contingent led by IG (North Bengal) and SP Uttar Dinajpur has arrived at the spot. A few persons have been picked up. One has been arrested. Raids are on.Wepen.June 8, 2019: Two police officers were grievously injured when criminals lobbed crude bombs, opened fire and attacked them with sharp weapons.

The incident occurred in the wee hours of Saturday at Dangapara under the Laxmipur gram panchayat area of Chopra in the Uttar Dinajpur district. The police have been on a hunt for one Saudagar, a criminal who is wanted in a number of cases. He has been on the run.

Based on specific information that Saudagar had returned to his house and was camping with other criminals, a police contingent raided his house. Seeing the police force, the criminals started lobbing bombs, firing and even attacked them with sharp weapons. 

Sub Inspectors Pintu Barman and Pravin Gurung have been grievously injured. They were initially taken to the Islampur Sub Divisional hospital. The condition of Gurung is reported to be critical. He has been shot on the neck. Gurung has been shifted to a private nursing home in Siliguri. The bullet fired had brazed Barman’s tummy. His condition is stable.
