Justice for slain leader sought
SNS, DARJEELING, MAY 21, 2019: On the ninth death anniversary of the All India Gorkha League (AIGL) Leader, Madan Tamang, both factions of the political party, along with his family members, paid homage to the late leader at his memorial at Clubside here today. Most of those present in the solemn gathering demanded justice for the slain leader and his family.
The AIGL has been organising such a programme every year on this day after Tamang was hacked to death in broad daylight at Clubside in 2010. "It has been so many years that my husband was murdered and we are yet to get justice. We want those behind is gruesome death to be arrested" said Bharati Tamang. Tamang's widow and president of one faction of the AIGL.
Khadas(traditional white scarves) and flowers were offered at the memorial, where leaders from her camp were present, along with Tamangs's brother, Amar Lama. who is a Jan Andolan Party leader. The Pratap Khati camp of the AIGL was also seen paying homage later in the afternoon.
"My brother always fought for the truth and it is nine years that has been gone.
To make his dream come true, we will al ways continue our fight. A charge sheet has al ready been filed in his murder-case but there are some intricacies in it as evidence has not been properly submitted which is unfortunate. 1We have filed a plea in the Supreme Court for one and half years now but the hearing has not been held. We hope that a hearing will be held soon and the important piece of evidence will be placed," said Mr Lama.
On the other hand. leader of the other camp Pratap Khati said, " The sacrifice Madan Tamang made through his Life, everyone should show determination.
commitment and come forward for the demand of Gorkhaland. We should all be united and move forward as the flag of a party is not big and we should have collective leadership. I want to appeal to the party members that their principles should be strong and all political parties should sit together after the election results:Mr Khan also maintained that they will work for justice in the Tamang murder-case and that everyone in Darjeeling wanted justice for it and those behind it be arrested.
