VIVEK CHHETRI, TT, 7 May 2019, Darjeeling: A 54-year-old woman returned to her home 10 kilos lighter near Darjeeling on Monday.

Manmati Gurung was admitted to Yuma Nursing Home in Darjeeling on April 30, to be operated for an ovarian cyst adenoma.

Samir Sharma, the doctor who operated on Gurung on May 1, said: "I was of the opinion that the cyst would weigh anything between 3 to 4 kg but it weighed 10.2 kg. This is the biggest tumour I have operated upon in my 14 years of career."

The homemaker, who returned to her home in Ging on Monday, said family members and villagers advised her to visit a doctor after she started losing weight.

"Sometime back, a doctor in Siliguri had told me that I had a tumour. They said it was a small one but advised me to operate it. I used to do all my household chores and never felt any discomfort, there was no pain at all. I visited the doctor in Darjeeling as my stomach looked big even after loosing weight," she said.

Ging is about 12km from Darjeeling. Doctor Sharma said the patient visited her on April 25. "She was normal when she came to me for the first time. Her only complaint was loss of appetite. The operation was necessary or else there could be an internal rupture. There could also be pressure symptoms on vital organs like liver and kidney," said Sharma.

The doctor was hopeful that the woman would recover within a month..
