"We will open government offices from Monday to Friday. Saturday will be a holiday. This is because to care and cure so that the employees can take care of their health and also that of their parents," he said
At present, only second Saturday of every month is a holiday Later in the day, the government issued a statement, saying the five-day week schedule would come into effect with immediate effect Golay chaired the first meeting of his cabinet and also held an introductory meeting with senior bureaucrats.
The chief minister asked the officials to work without fear or favour and assured them that there would be no victimisation or political interference in their functioning Golay also said he had no personal enmity with his processor and SDF president Pawan Chamling and their differences were only over ideology and principles.
"The former chief minister ran the government for 25 years...We will also take suggestions from him," he said, adding his government would continue with the good policies of the previous government and make changes only where required The SDF, however, boycotted the swearing-in ceremony to protest Golay's appointment despite his not being able to contest the election due to his conviction in a corruption case.
"It is shocking and unfortunate that a man who was convicted has become the chief minister which is a violation of the Peoples Representation Act, 1951," said Bhim Dahal, a spokesman for the SDF.
