Darjeeling Hills along with North Bengal districts to have light to moderate rain with thunder Weather forecast for 5 days

KalimNews, 4 May 2019: The India Meteorological Department said that the "extremely severe" cyclone struck Odisha at about 8 a.m. on Friday morning, by which time almost 1.2 million people had been evacuated to higher ground.
It was downgraded later Friday from "extremely severe" to "very severe," and the Meteorological Department said it weakened further into a "severe" cyclone as it moved northeast toward Kolkata.
Fani is the strongest cyclone to hit India's coast since a storm in 1999 left more than 10,000 people dead.
Advances in early warning systems and evacuation planning meant the new disaster was likely to claim far fewer lives, but it could still bring widespread flooding that damages infrastructure and poses a significant human health risk.

Fani was expected to hit West Bengal state at about 4 p.m. local time (6:30 a.m. Eastern) as a "severe" cyclone, with winds gusting to about 70 mph and heavy rain.
The eye of the storm was forecast to hit the city, which has a population of about 4.5 million, at midnight.
By the time the storm reaches Bangladesh early on Saturday, forecasters said the sustained wind speeds were likely to have dropped to about 40 mph.

It was expected that The Very Severe Cyclonic Storm ‘FANI’ over Coastal Odisha moved further north - north east wards with a speed of about 17 kmph in last six hours and lay centred at 14.30 hrs IST of 03 rd May , 2019 over Coastal Odisha near latitude 20. 5 °N and longitude 86 . 0 °E , close to Cuttack (Odisha), about 25 km north east of Bhubaneswar (Odisha) and 170 km south - southwest of Baripada (Odisha) and about 330 km southwest of Kolkata , 190 km southwest of Digha.
It is very likely to continue to move north - northeastwards and weaken further into a severe cyclonic storm during next six hours . It is very likely to emerge into Gangetic West Bengal as a Severe Cyclonic Storm with wind speed of 90 - 100 Kmph gusting to 115 Kmph by early morning of 4th May. It is very likely to move further north - northeastwards and emerge into Bangladesh on 4th May evening as a Cyclonic Storm with wind speed 60 - 70 Kmph gusting to 80 Kmph.
Gale wind speed reaching 90 -100 gusting to 115 kmph very likely over West & East Midnapore districts and 70 to 80 Kmph over Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, North & South 24 Parganas during early morning of 4 May 2019 for subsequent 12 hours and decrease there.
