BJP leader held for posting CM's distorted picture on social media
The BJP leader identified as Priyanka Sharma allegedly used a picture of actor Priyanka Chopra at met gala event and replaced the actor's face with a picture of the Chief Minister.
On Thursday, a Trinamool leader in Howrah lodged a complaint against her at the Dasnagar police station.
After the complaint was lodged, the Cyber Crime section of Howrah Police took charge of the investigation.
On Friday morning, Sharma was called for interrogation. After a few hours questioning by the police officers, she was arrested for allegedly distorting Banerjee's picture and posting it on social media.
She was produced before the Howrah Court and has been remanded to judicial custody for 14 days.
Sharma claimed she did not distort or morph the picture and only posted it on social media. Sharma said that she is being framed.
In another incident, a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader was arrested for allegedly posting a distorted picture of Trinamool candidate Kalyan Banerjee.
During last week of April, before the polls in the Sreerampore Kalyan Banerjee was campaigning in the area.
During a rally his one of his friends' daughter reportedly honoured him with a garland. Later, he also retaliated by putting the garland on his friend's daughter.
Kalyan Banerjee's friend had posted the picture on his social media account.
The RSS leader, Amanish Aiyar, allegedly copied it from the social media account of Banerjee's friend.
Later, he distorted the picture the picture and posted it on the social media.
On May 4, Banerjee's election agent Dilip Yadav lodged a complaint with the Sreerampore police station against the RSS leader .
On the basis of the complaint Aiyar was arrested few days ago.
