Another Bimal camp leader arrested

VIVEK CHHETRI, TT, 31 May 2019, Darjeeling: A Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (Bimal Gurung camp) leader, Tilak Chand Roka, was arrested last night, hours after spokesperson B.P. Bajgain was taken into custody.

Both have been remanded in judicial custody. Pankaj Prasad, assistant public prosecutor said: "Bajgain was arrested in a case related to the by-election campaign period. A case had been registered in which Bajgain and other leaders had entered a government building and hosted the party flagPrasad claimed the accused had entered the building with arms and four civic volunteers who were present the complex were assaulted.

The case is related to BJP bypoll candidate Neeraj Zimba entering the former party office of Morcha (Bimal camp) at Singamari in Darjeeling, which is currently under the possession of the government and hosting the party flag.

Roka was arrested in a case related to submitting a letter to Darjeeling civic chairman Prativa Rai Tamang on Wednesday for a no-confidence motion. Prativa is aligned to the Morcha's Binay Tamang camp.

Prasad said: "The allegation is that Roka and other councilors who were armed with rods, khukuri and stone entered the chairperson's office, obstructed her from discharging her duties and assaulted her. Binay camp leaders denied the charges.

Darjeeling BJP MP Raju Bista alleged that in north Bengal "TMC has unleashed a reign of violence and fear".

"Yesterday popular mass leader from our NDA partners Gorkha Janmukti Morcha BP Bajgain and Tilak Roka were unlawfully arrested by the police. The house of another NDA partner and GNLF leader Raju Subba was vandalised and there was an attempt on his life," Bista said in a written statement.

Roshan Giri, general secretary of the Morcha (Bimal) camp, in a message on social media stated: "Family members killed by the West Bengal police during the 2017 Gorkhaland agitation, will be attending the inauguration of the new government in Delhi today." Sources said five members attended the function..
