Tamang resigns from post of GTA chairman
Following the acceptance of his resignation, Anit Thapa, the vice-chairman, will now officiate as chairman, stated GTA in an order signed by the Principal Secretary, Home and Hill Affairs department.
The order states that Tamang has tendered his resignation in order to contest the by-election from Darjeeling Assembly constituency.
"…Now, therefore, the Governor is pleased to accept the resignation tendered by Binay Tamang vide his letter dated 24.04.2019 from the post of chairman of the said caretaking authority of GTA," stated the order.
The Bengal government has appointed Gorkha Janmukti Morcha leader Anit
Thapa as the chairman of the board of administrators to run the
Gorkhaland Territorial Administration.
The post has fallen vacant after
Binay Tamang quit to contest the Darjeeling Assembly bypoll. The
byelection will be held on May 19.
