BJP General Secretary To Address Campaign Rally In Darjeeling
“We have got confirmation from our National General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya. He will be addressing the gathering on April 15 in Darjeeling” stated BJP Darjeeling District President Manoj Dewan.
Dewan stated that the rally will be held at the Darjeeling Government High School Ground. The ground is outside the main compound of the school located below the Darjeeling Railway station.
“Modalities are being worked out for the General Secretary’s travel to Darjeeling. Earlier Delhi had inquired about helicopter landing facilities in the Hill town. However when we informed them that there is a single helicopter landing facility in Darjeeling and that at the Lebong Army Cantonment, under the Defence Ministry, our leadership in Delhi is looking into it” stated Dewan.
The BJP is being supported by regional parties including the Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF;) Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (Bimal Gurung faction) and Communist Party of Revolutionary Marxist in the Darjeeling constituency. Some Gorkha outfits have also come out in support of the saffron brigade.
“The District Administration and the GTA are partial. Despite asking for permission for other venues including the Lebong Stadium we were denied. Whole day we waited to get a NOC for the Lebong Stadium but could not get it from the GTA. Later we were given permission for the High School Ground. They were trying to harass us by creating the uncertainty over granting permission. There is no democracy under the TMC in Bengal” alleged Dewan.
On April 11, the day on which TMC Chief Mamata Banerjee had addressed a mammoth rally in Darjeeling, BJP President Amit Shah had addressed a rally in Kalimpong. Darjeeling will go to polls on April 18.
