Sikkim: 156 nominations for Assembly poll

RAJEEV RAVIDAS, TT, 27 Mar 2019 Gangtok: The nominations of 156 Assembly and 11 Lok Sabha candidates in Sikkim were accepted after scrutiny of papers on Tuesday.

But the number of contestants will be known on Thursday, the last day of withdrawal. The voting will be on April 11.

The Sikkim Democratic Front and the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha are the only two parties which are contesting from all 32 Assembly constituencies and the lone Lok Sabha seat. Bhaichung Bhutia's Hamro Sikkim Party is contesting from only 24 seats.

The national parties, BJP and Congress, on the other hand, have fielded candidates in 12 and 25 seats, respectively.

The office of the chief electoral officer, Sikkim, has been conducting mock polls and mobile van campaign in all four districts to encourage all eligible citizens to vote and make an informed decision during the twin elections.

A release issued here said the mobile vans were successful in facilitating proper dissemination of information through videos and songs to the public. The mock polls, the release said, were conducted at Biraspati Parsai Senior Secondary School, Ranipool and Government Secondary School at Ahopul.
