Tamang to join CM dharna today
VIVEK CHHETRI, TT, 05 Feb 2019, Darjeeling: Binay Tamang and other senior Gorkha Janmukti Morcha leaders will join chief minister Mamata Banerjee's dharna in Calcutta on Tuesday to express their solidarity with her fight against the Centre.
On Monday, the Morcha brought out marches across the Darjeeling hills to protest alleged attempts by the BJP government at the Centre to discredit autonomous institutions in the country.
Tamang, the Morcha president, said: "Autonomous institutions are being used relentlessly by the BJP government for political revenge. The CBI is a tool today for the BJP to use it for vindictive politics." Tamang, along with Morcha general secretary Anit Thapa, Darjeeling MLA Amar Singh Rai, Kurseong MLA Rohit Sharma and party leader Sanchabir Subba will join the dharna on Tuesday evening.
"We will join the dharna to express our solidarity with Mamata Banerjee and to protest against how the Centre is hijacking institutions to discredit political opponents," said Tamang.
Morcha supporters burnt an effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Chowk Bazar in Darjeeling during the rally that had started from near the railway station.
In Kurseong, the march was led by Thapa.
Posters were also plastered across the hills against the BJP.
