TT, 21 February 2019, Jalpaiguri: Six persons, including a local Trinamul union, leader have been arrested in connection with Wednesday's alleged attack on the owner and manager of a tea factory at Rajganj block in Jalpaiguri.
The other five, sources said, are also known Trinamul supporters in Karatowa, the area were the bought leaf factory -- one that processes tea bought from small tea growers -- is located.
On Wednesday, Satish Agarwala, the owner and Bappaditya Guha, the manager, were assaulted by Sabul Mohammad, an Inttuc leader of Rajganj block and his associates. Both had to move out of the factory and rush to the police station for help.
"All the arrested were produced at a local court in Jalpaiguri. They were given bail," said a police source.
On Tuesday, Amitabha Maiti, the SP of Jalpaiguri, assured private entrepreneurs of all help.
"In course of the meeting, Agarwala had narrated his problem. As the news spread, Sabul and some others approached him and asked why he has made such comments. This led to altercation and they assaulted him. It is unfortunate that such incidents of highhandedness, whether in the name of syndicates of construction materials or attack on investors, are happening in some parts of Rajganj block despite assurances from the state's side," said Surajit Paul, general secretary, North Bengal Industries' Association.
