Giri to extend all help to CM in resolving Gorkha woes
MP | 2 February 2019 |Kolkata: Roshan Giri, general secretary of Gorkha Janamukti Morcha, has decided to extend all support to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in resolving longstanding issues of the Gorkhas.
Giri, in a statement issued on Friday, has welcomed Mamata Banerjee's statement made in Darjeeling on January 23 that she was willing to work to resolve the long-pending demand of the Gorkha people permanently and safeguard their identity.
Giri said that formation of a separate administrative unit comprising Darjeeling, Terai and Dooars was originally raised by the Hillmen's Association in 1907. From time to time, demands to address the problems of the Gorkhas have been raised.
The semi-autonomous bodies like Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council and Gorkhaland Territorial Administration cannot fulfill the aspiration of the Gorkha people.
