Another spell of rain likely this weekend, predicts Met
TOI, KOLKATA: A wind confluence over the Chhattisgarh-Jharkhand region could bring yet another spell of rain in Kolkata this weekend.
A western disturbance now brewing over Jammu and Kashmir is expected to travel south-east and reach central India by Friday. "It will trigger a confluence of easterly and westerly winds that lead to clouding and rain. While the easterly winds are moist, westerly winds are dry. Their confluence leads to rain," said Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) director GK Das. He added that the weather could turn similar to that of last Saturday when the city had gone under a cloud cover and received drizzles.
"That one was also triggered by a western disturbance that came from north-west India. This one, too, is similar and the result could be the same," said Das. But this weekend's rain could be slightly heavier. "Even though we don't expect heavy showers, there could be repeated drizzles throughout the day. Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh will receive heavy rain," said Das.
Kolkata, however, will remain dry over the next three days. "Easterly winds are carrying in moisture which will slowly pull the mercury up. We expect the minimum temperature to remain around 15°C on Wednesday. It could rise marginally to 16°C on Thursday and could touch 18°C on Friday. There isn't any immediate possibility of the mercury sliding down," said Das.
