2 stages for PM meetings in Jalpaiguri tomorrow
Pinak Priya Bhattacharya | TNN | Feb 7, 2019 | Jalpaiguri: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to make some government announcements before addressing a BJP meeting during his scheduled visit to Churabhandar in the district’s Maynaguri block on Friday.
At a press conference here on Wednesday, BJP leader Mukul Roy said two stages were being prepared at Churabhandar. “As PM, he will make announcements that the people of north Bengal have been awaiting for decades. Then he will mount the second podium from where he will address the public meeting,” Roy said.
Diptiman Sengupta, BJP’s observer for Jalpaiguri district, said: “There is a basic difference between Modi and Mamata (Banerjee). The Bengal CM can announce government projects during her party programme. But Modi will never do that as he understands the difference between the government and the party in power. Therefore, we were asked to make two stages.”
Roy hinted that Modi may speak on setting up a Calcutta High Court circuit bench in Jalpaiguri, which north Bengal’s people have been demanding for six decades.
About the Lok Sabha election, Roy expressed hope that BJP would perform well in the eight north Bengal seats. “Trinamool will lose most of the eight seats,” he said.
