Youth arrested in Malda with Rs 2cr drugs

KOUSIK SEN, TT, 31 Jan 2019, Raiganj: The Narcotics Control Bureau arrested a youth with heroin worth Rs 2 crore from a village in Malda district on Tuesday night.

Suman Das, a resident of Loknathpara in the neighbouring North Dinajpur district, was carrying around 850 grams of heroin. He was picked up by an NCB team from Calcutta.

"We had information that a racket was active in Malda to smuggle drugs into other states. We also came to know about the person who had collected the narcotic from a person in Kaliachak and had planned to carry the same to Dalkhola (in North Dinajpur," said a source in NCB.

Accordingly, the NCB team reached Badhapukur under Englishbazar police stat- Suman Das ion on Tuesday night and found Suman at local bus stand off NH 34. "He planned to board a bus and take heroin to Dalkhola. Eventually, the contraband would have been smuggled into Uttar Pradesh via Bihar," said the NCB source.

Heroin, a derivative of opium, is a costly narcotic and is used in rave parties, said the source. The seized stuff, NCB sources said, is suspected to have entered Kaliachak from Bangladesh and was worth around Rs 2 crore on black market.

"We need to interrogate the youth to know more details about the racket and how he caught hold of the drug," said the source..
