Kalimpong councillor 'sorry' for attacking chief

SNS, KALIMPONG,17 JANUARY 2019: Councillor of Ward-1 of Kalimpong Municipality, Kunal Pradhan, has apologized for attacking municipality chairman Rabi Pradhan at Dambar Chowk here on 4 January.

Mr Pradhan sent his apologies in a reply he sent to a show-cause notice he was served on 8 January.

The district committee of the Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha huddled for a meeting yesterday and read out the reply, which Kunal had sent on 10 January However, it is learnt that Mr Pradhan has not sent the apology letter to the civic body board.

Meanwhile sources from the party said that "certain conditions" have been set for Mr Pradhan before he reappears in public. "Presently, he stands temporarily suspended from the party," they said. Mr Pradhan has been absconding ever since the incident took place. Sources further said that the conditions was that Kunal Pradhan should make a public apology through the media.

"Kunal has to come before the media and apologise so that similar incidents donot repeat," a Morcha source said.

On the other hand, the chairman said he means no harm to Kunal Pradhan. He has said that he rather wants him to speak out to him about his problems.

It may be mentioned here that the chairman escaped unhurt after he dodged Kunal Pradhan's blow, while his security was accidentally injured.

"Kunal can write to me about the reasons for the attack or the dissatisfaction he has. I will also reply to him in writing. I want to know from him is the mastermind behind the whole thing, as it has been creating disputes in the party. We somehow, know the mastermind, but we just want to know from him, or Kunal has to tell the party about him," Rabi Pradhan said.

An FIR had been filed against Kunal Pradhan by the security guard after the incident.

The spokesperson for the Kalimpong district Committee of the Morcha, Bhuwan Khanal, said that the police will do their work and the party will not interfere in it.

When asked, Sanchabir Subba the member of the GTA Board of Administrators from Kalimpong, told this correspondent that she should rather talk to Bhuwan Khanal about all this.

"Kunal is under disciplinary action of the party and we are observing him- Mr Khanal later said.
