Hill development proposal report submitted to CM
Incidentally, on September 4, 2018 the Chief Minister had announced the formation of a special committee in the GTA. It was entrusted with the task of formulating short term, mid-term and long term plans regarding the development of the Hills and submit the report within six months. The committee was led by Amar Singh Rai, MLA, Darjeeling. A GTA team including chairman Binoy Tamang, vice-chairman Anit Thapa and Rai met the Chief Minister and submitted it.
"The report was scheduled to be handed over in March, however, the committee submitted it on Tuesday," stated Tamang. In the meeting with the Chief Minister, it was announced that the Pahari Bhawan located at Matigarah, Siliguri, would be handed over to the GTA.
"The Pahari Bhawan under the North Bengal Development Department had been handed over to the Sports and Youth Affairs Department last year but is not being used. During my visit to Kolkata, I had requested that the Pahari Bhawan be handed over to the GTA so that it can be used to house patients undergoing treatment at North Bengal Medical College and Hospital along with students studying at the North Bengal University. She has agreed and it will be formally announced from the state government programme on Wednesday," stated Tamang. Regarding the Darjeeling Hill University, Tamang stated that administrative work will ensue from May 2019 and advertisements for recruitment of the Vice-Chancellor has already come out.
