Toy train ride for agents
TT, 22 Dec 2018, Siliguri: Officials of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR) organised a special evening ride of its toy train service on Friday to familiarise stakeholders of the tourism industry about the service that has been recently introduced from the plains to the hills.
On December 16, a new service between Siliguri to Rongtong was launched. It is a three-hour return journey with on-board refreshments for passengers. The train comprises two coaches, a sitting car and a dining car, and is hauled by a steam loco.
"We expect good numbers during Christmas and New Year," said M.K. Narzary, the director of DHR.
With tour operators, hoteliers and transporters on board, the train took them to Rongtong in the afternoon. It returned to Siliguri in evening.
"We appreciate the initiative. Now that we have experienced the journey, we will discuss how it can be promoted. We will also submit a set of proposals to improve the Toy Train services," said Samrat Sanyal, general secretary, Himalayan Hospitality & Tourism Development Network.
