Man held for 'killing' his daughter

SNS, KALIMPONG, 12 DECEMBER 2018: One 13-year-old girl was allegedly murdered by her father,44, as she did not com home one night on the outskirts of Kalimpong district on 9 December.

"She reached home late only in the wee hours the next morning and the father-daughter had a quarrel that night. When the father lost his temper, he killed his daughter. After killing her, he buried her nearby," said one of the villagers.

It is learnt that only the father-daughter duo used to live at their house there. The next day passed without any update, but the day after that, the deceased's father told his father about the incident, village sources said.

The police were later informed and the man was arrested yesterday, it is learnt. Meanwhile, in the presence of the magistrate, the dead body was exhumed and was sent to the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem yesterday. The accused was produced in the court and sent in police custody for seven days today.

He has been booked under section 302 (murder) and 201 (tampering with evidence) of the Indian Penal Code, and also section-6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence Act.
