Hill unemployed 'trained teachers' seek appt priority

SNS, 18 December 2018, Kurseong: The Gorkha Unemployed Primary Trained Teachers Organisation Gorkhaland Territorial Administration, Darjeeling, has urged GTA officials to give trained teachers first priority in the primary teachers' recruitment process.
In a meeting held at the Gorkha Jan Pustakalay here on Saturday, members of the organisation discussed several issues, including ways to strengthen their organization and achieve their goals.
Talking to reporters, the president of the organization, Dinesh Gurung, said that they have been working on issues related to unemployed trained teachers in the Hills.
"Since 2002, no recruitment has been made for primary-teachers in the GTA area In 2016, the then education in-charge of the GTA, Roshan Giri, had issued a notice in newspapers regarding the recruitment of 650 primary teachers, but that never happened," he said.
"From our organisational side, I want to request the GTA authorities concerned to give first priority to trained teachers in the primary teachers recruitment process. Not only this, all the recruitment should be done under the National Council tor Teacher Education Act, so that primary education heads the right way," Mr Gurung added.
According to him, most of the people in the Hill feel that the level of quality of primary education is going down with the passage of time.
'But people should understand that until and unless proper processor Acts are followed, it is difficult to upgrade the level of primary education," he said, adding that they have already met senior GTA officials, including the education in-charge, Tshering Dahal, over their issues and demand.
Another organization member, Kewal Thapa, said that Saturday's meeting discussed different issues related to their organization. "We also formed our Kurseong Sub-Division Standing Committee to smoothly execute our organizational activities," he said.
According to him, the organization was established in 2014 and a total of 400 unemployed trained teachers are associated with it. Newly-recruited president of their organization, Roshan Dewan, said they met the vice-chairman of the GTA Board of Administrators, Anit Thapa, regarding the issues. "He has assured us that the trained members will be definitely preferred in the primary teachers' recruitment from now on," Mr Desan said.
