
American held at Indo-Nepal border without visa
Amitava Banerjee | MP | 22 Dec 2018| Darjeeling: Personnel of the Shasastra Seema Bal (SSB) guarding the Indo-Nepal border apprehended two persons including an American on Friday from Panitanki in the Darjeeling district. The American did not have an Indian visa. At around 4 pm, SSB personnel apprehended one Samson Rana (25 years) of Sioux Falls City, South Dakota State, USA along with one Kiran Lama of Bhag 2, Sukna, Darjeeling. Lama was accompanying Rana. Rana was found to have entered India from Nepal at Panitanki border, 32 km from Siliguri, without a visa. Documents including Rana's passport recovered from their possession were seized. The duo along with the seized documents were handed over to the police at the Khoribari police station.
"A case has been registered and police are looking into the matter," stated Akhilesh Chaturvedi, Superintendent of Police, Darjeeling. The duo were produced at the ACJM Court in Siliguri on Saturday and sent to judicial custody.
