4 arrested for rape..... Tribal woman rape cuffs on 4
TT, Siliguri: Four persons were arrested on Friday for allegedly repeatedly raping a tribal woman and assaulting her husband in Darjeeling.
Sources said the woman had been staying alone at her home for the past few weeks as her husband works in Nepal as a contractual worker.
The woman has alleged that the accused used to intrude into her house and drink on a regular basis and then rape her.
"Despite protests by the woman, they went ahead with the practice and repeatedly raped her. The accused had also threatened her with dire consequences if she informs anybody about their crime," said a police officer.
"On Thursday, the woman's husband returned home and went to meet the accused after his wife narrated her ordeal. The man got into an altercation with them and they beat him up. On Friday, the victim filed a police complaint," the officer added.
The police are in search of another accused allegedly involved in the crime. The arrested youths have been identified as Biswanath Birja, Tibru Birja, Bhalen Birja and Prem Birja.
