Siliguri film fest
TT, 19 Nov 2018, Siliguri: The nineteenth edition of Siliguri International Film Festival is scheduled to begin here at Dinabandh Mancha on Monday.
State tourism minister Gautam Deb and actress Tuhina Das will remain present at the launch of the fest which is to be inaugurated by filmmaker Arindam Sil.
As many as 17 different films, made in 10 different countries, would be screened at the festival, organised by Siliguri Cine Society.
After the inauguration, the first film that would be screened is Abar Aschhe Sabar, a thriller directed by Sil. Also, this is the first time that two films from Nepal Maina and K 2 would be shown in the festival. "There are a sizeable population of Nepali speaking people in the city and in its adjacent areas. We have received requests that Nepali movies should also be screened at the fest and accordingly, the decision was made to show two Nepali movies," said Pradip Nag, secretary of the Siliguri Cine Society.
A Swedish film Silence, directed by Ingmar Burgman, would be screened on Tuesday, said representatives of the Siliguri Cine Society. Among other films which would be sc- reened includes, Berlin Syndrome from Australia, Julieta from Spain, Phoenix from Germany and Agyatanama from Bangladesh.
"There will be two shows on first five days and three shows on the last two days. The tickets will cost between Rs 20 and Rs 30 and will be available from Monday," said a representative of the society.
The fest will conclude on November 26.
Ahead of the upcoming film fest, the Sixth Siliguri International Short and Documentary Film Festival was held here that ended on November 16. In total, 66 films were screened during the festival.
