GNLF on K'pong 'flag propaganda'
SNS, KALIMPONG, 31 OCT 08: Focusing on the issue of Gorkhaland, the Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF) here staged what it called a 'flag propaganda' today by implanting party flags at various places like 9th Mile, Saat-do bato, Thana Dana. and 10th Mile in the town.
A GNLF member, Praveen Sakya, said that leaders in the Hills have been misleading the junta (public) in the name of Gorkhaland. He urged people to tread cautiously and become aware as Gorkhaland cannot be achieved as soon as the leaders say they will."
"If that was the case, Gorkhaland could have been achieved in the year 2007 itself. The Gorkhaland agitation has been ruined by the
leaders time and again, and now the green flag has fluttered to recover from the chaos created by the leaders,- Mr Sakya said, adding that the junta should not be cheated now.
The GNLF still has a firm belief in the provision of the Sixth Schedule of the Indian constitution, as they say that this provision that provides for declaration of an entire area as tribal area, "is the only medium with a constitutional guarantee."
"The government cannot provide anything better than the Sixth Schedule, which has a constitutional guarantee. We will always entertain anyone who will achieve any system for the Hills that has a constitutional guarantee, but we will definitely oppose something which has no constitutional weight," Sakya said.
