Four held with arms; body found
SNS, SILIGURI: The Siliguri/Metropolitan Police has thwarted a robbery bid and arrested four persons with one 7.65 pistol and tour live cartridges from their possession in the weehours at the Tenzing Norgay bus terminus in Siliguri today
The four persons have been identified as Sunil Tamang 27, a resident of Jorethang in Sikkim and currently residing in a rented house at Pardhan Nagar in Siliguri, Subhajit Das, 22, Subham Sarkar, 25, both residents of Siliguri, and Dipak Das, 19, a resident of Berhampore, who had been living at Jhankar More in Siliguri.
Police suspected that the accused were planning a robbery as they had all the equipment needed for one.
Acting on a tip-off police raided the Tenzing Norgay Bus Terminus and arrested the four persons and seized one 7.65 automatic pistol, one Rampuri chaku (dagger), two iron rods suspected to break the locks, four live cartridges, one motorcycle and other sharp objects. Police said that the men had acquired the gun from Bihar.
Meanwhile, tension reigned supreme at Darjeeling More in Siliguri today after police recovered a body from a water tank at an under-construction building.
The body has been identified as that of Bhanu Sarkar, 40, a resident of Pakaijote, Champasari, in Siliguri. He had been working in a hotel.
According to a family member, the man was missing since 31 October and a missing diary had also been lodged with the police. The family members also said that the deceased was suffering from epilepsy.
Police suspected that the body was four days old and they have sent it for autopsy at the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital.
