2 arrested of Bimal camp ...leaders held

SNS, Kalimpong, 1 November 2018: Police in Kalimpong arrested Sapana Chettri, a supporter of the fugitive Morcha leader Bimal Gurung, this morning. The police produced Ms Chettri in the court.

The arrest comes close on the heels of another similar arrest the police made here yesterday. Suraj Bagdas, another important leader of the Bimal Gurung faction, was arrested yesterday in connection with cases that the police filed during the Gorkhaland agitation in the Hills last year.

It may be recalled that Mr Bagdas was arrested on 1 September last year too, in the arson case of the Tamang Development Board office.

This time around, he was booked for his alleged involvement in a clash.

The police held him for rioting and carrying weapons, and have booked him under section 307 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC),while other charges against him include 'attempt to murder'.

After arresting Mr Bagdas, the police detained Ms Chettri for interrogation. She was grilled at the police station for a night, while she was 'shown arrest' the next morning, sources said.

The court has sent both the accused in seven days' police remand.

It maybe mentioned here that such arrests of supporters of Bimal Gurung have been going on in the Hills ever since the agitation last year.
