Rajnath lauds Mamata for 'excellent' arrangement
MP | 1 Oct 2018 | Kolkata: Rajnath Singh appreciated Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, stating that the arrangement for the Eastern Zonal Council meeting was "excellent". Banerjee, who is the vice-chairperson of the council, was the host of Monday's meeting.
Singh said: "The arrangement was excellent and we express our gratitude to Chief Minister Mamatadi for the same." Interestingly, the Union Home minister has written his name in Bengali on his Twitter handle, during his stay in the city.
In connection with Monday's meeting, he further said: "It was a successful meeting. Twenty six out of a total of 30 issues have been discussed and resolved." Singh later tweeted: "Attended the 23rd meeting of Eastern Zonal Council in Kolkata, West Bengal. The deliberations of the Council were held in a cordial atmosphere and in the true spirit of cooperative federalism. Out of the total 30 agenda items discussed today, 26 were resolved in the meeting." The Standing Committee of the Council held a meeting on December 21 in 2017 and in the same meeting, seven issues including curbing of drugs trafficking, matters related to fisheries, model flood code for chronically flood affected areas and communal issues were discussed.
It may be mentioned that in the past four years, 13 zonal council meetings and 15 standing committee meetings have taken place. Moreover, there were around 700 issues that have been discussed in these meetings, 450 of which were resolved. In Monday's meeting, The Council had also taken up 15 new issues including development of allocated coal mines, implementation of various national programmes of health, establishment of shelters for urban homeless people, expedited clearance for laying optical fibre cable and land acquisition for development of 11 airports in the four states that are under the Eastern Zonal Council.
There was tight security arrangement in and around Nabanna for the meeting.
