Heavy rain to hit N Bengal districts: MeT

Heavy rain to hit N Bengal districts: MeTMP | 15 Sep 2018 | Kolkata: The Regional Meteorological Centre at Alipore on Saturday predicted heavy rainfall in the North Bengal districts in the next few days owing to a low pressure trough over Bengal and Bihar. According to the weather office, South Bengal districts including the city may receive scattered rainfall. The sky in the city will mainly remain cloudy in the next couple of days. 
There may thundershowers in some of the South Bengal districts. People in the city are not going to get any respite from the discomfort as the humidity level will remain high, said the weather office. A cyclonic circulation may also become active over Sikkim, Jharkhand, Odisha and Bengal which is expected to contribute towards heavy rainfall in all the North Bengal districts, also affecting Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar which have already started receiving rainfall. A senior official at the Alipore MeT office said that Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, Kalimpong will receive heavy to very heavy rainfall in the next few days. Rain is expected in South Bengal districts as well. 
"There is a possibility of widespread rainfall in North Bengal till Tuesday under the influence of the low pressure trough which is likely to become more marked. A cyclonic circulation which is expected to form over Bengal and some neighbouring districts may further complicate the situation. Spells of thundershower may hit South Bengal districts as well," the official said. 
The MeT office also said the districts like West and East Midnapore, Purulia and Jhargram, Murshidabad, Birbhum may witness rain accompanied by lightning, while the city and its adjoining areas may receive scattered rainfall.
