Sikkim politics hot up after Golay’s release

SUJAL PRADHAN, EOI, Gangtok, 11 Aug 2018: With the release of Sikkim Krantikari Morcha President P. S. Golay from prison, the political temperature in Gangtok has started rising. On Saturday, in an emergency meeting in his office with ministers and legislators of the ruling Sikkim Democratic Front, Chief Minister Pawan Chamling discussed the future plan. Golay, too, in a Press communiqué, left a political message.
SDF spokesperson K. T. Gyaltsen said said there was nothing to be excited about in Golay’s release as it was “just an ordinary legal procedure.” On Friday night, however, SDF supporters at Namchi staged a protest demonstration waving party flags when Golay’s long motorcade passed through the town. SDF is already in a campaign mode for the assembly election slated in 2019, holding a unique umbrella rally in Gangtok town earlier this week.
Golay who received a grand welcome from his party supporter on Friday forwarded his sincere thanks to the people, party cadres and well wishers for organising such a welcome event. “With the love and affection from the people of Sikkim I was overwhelmed now with this support and affection no one will stop us from forming government in 2019,” his statement said.
Golay also thanked the jail authorities, saying he would never forget the moments spent in the jail. He also thanked the police authorities for helping to successfully conduct the welcome event.
