One arrested for selling fake insurance policies
One Passang Subba had purchased a vehicle from one Mani Subba of Ghoom, Bhanjyang.
The vehicle had met with an accident. While claiming insurance, it came to the notice of Bajaj Allianz General Insurance Company Limited that the insurance policies for the period of 30-03-15 to 2016 and from 31-03-2016 to 30-03-17 for the vehicle were both forged and fabricated.
Accordingly, the Investigation and Loss Mitigation division of the insurance company, Kolkata, lodged a complaint with Sukhiapokhari Police Station, Darjeeling.
Police investigations led to Dinesh Ghising (53) of Darjeeling. Ghising was running a travel agency named 'Ritu Raj Travels' on the first floor of the Old Super Market, Darjeeling.
Police raided the office and arrested Ghising on Monday evening. During the interrogation, Ghising confessed his crime and said he had done so, two years ago, using fake rubber stamps of banks, schools, insurance companies and government offices. His statements were recorded under Section 161 CrPC.
Hard disks, multiple rubber stamps of insurance companies and banks; pen-drives, insurance policy documents and transfer certificate book of District School Board, primary education, GTA were recovered from his possession.
A case has been initiated at Sukhipokhari police station. Ghising was produced before the CJM court in Darjeeling on Tuesday.
"He has been charged under Sections 420/ 467/ 468/ 470/ 471 and 120 B of the IPC. Police had prayed for 5 days of remand for further investigations (to find out the names of others who cheated). The Court allowed 3 days of remand to police custody," stated Pankaj Prasad, Assistant Public Prosecutor, Darjeeling.
