Imran PM by big margin

NASIR JAFFRY, TT, Aug 18, 2018, Islamabad: Imran Khan was on Friday elected the 22nd Prime Minister of Pakistan with a big margin, defeating his rival Shehbaz Sharif of the Pakistan Muslim League (N).
Former cricket captain Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) holds 151 of the 342 seats in the lower chamber of parliament, short of a majority, but is expected to form a coalition government with smaller parties.
In Friday's lower House vote, Khan bagged 176 votes to defeat Sharif, who won 96 votes. Khan has yet to announce his cabinet.
The election came hours after a banking court in Karachi issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari in a fake bank accounts case.
Khan, who came to power pledging to end corruption and create an "Islamic welfare state", pledged to bring to justice "all those who have robbed this country".
Khan will be sworn in as Prime Minister on Saturday. President Mamnoon Hussain will administer the oath of office to him.
Analysts believe Khan's government will have to take care of serious problems, both on the domestic and international fronts.
The major problem will be to soothe the ailing and fragile economy.
