Mobile tour kiosks on anvil
TT, Siliguri: The Bengal tourism department plans to introduce mobile kiosks or booths to apprise people of newer destinations and attractions which have come up in popular tourist spots in the state.
Named as "Tourism on Wheels," the vehicles numbering 20 will roam around in the state and even beyond.
"The mobile booths will be decorated with display boards and will have television screens where promotional videos and photos would be shown at different places to attract tourists. Also, each vehicle will carry adequate publicity materials like pamphlets containing detail information about the destinations," said a source.
The department has already taken the task of setting up kiosks at a number of locations across Bengal.
They include principal transit points like airports, railway stations and bus terminuses and locations like Chowrastha in Darjeeling.
"The mobile kiosks will supplement the kiosks as they would move across the state. Such vehicles can be sent to social events like fairs and festivals, held at common locations, to let people know more about our places," the source added.
