Kidney removal slur on doctors
TT, Jul 20, 2018, Cooch Behar: Two surgeons at a private nursing home here have been accused of removing kidneys of two patients without their knowledge.
Bharati Oraon, a worker of Torsha tea estate near Jaigaon in Alipurduar district, on Thursday filed a complaint at the district consumer dispute redressal forum with the demand for a compensation of Rs 15.62 lakh.
She had been operated on for kidney stone by doctors Md Wasim Raja and Tarun Pal.
The other complaint was lodged with police by Suren Roy, a farmer from Alipurduar. He said doctor Pal had performed a surgery for low abdomen pain and he learnt later that the right kidney had been excised during the operation.
Doctor Raja said Bharati's right kidney had been removed with permission from the patient and her family before the surgery.
Asked about the charges levelled by Roy, doctor Pal evaded a direct reply."It is an old case and I will have to check the patient's history and necessary documents before making any comment," he said.
