TT, Siliguri: A female elephant which suffered serious injuries due to electric shock on Tuesday morning died in the evening.
The jumbo suffered the shock after it came in contact with an overhead electric wire on the outskirts of Siliguri, sources said.
Local people when spotted the injured animal informed police and forest department officials who rushed to the spot to rescue the elephant. Vets from Jalpaiguri were treating the jumbo.
The elephant had strayed into the area under Bamanpokhri Range in search of fodder, the source added.
