Child-lift fear thrash on another man

TT, Jalpaiguri: A migrant worker from Jharkhand and was drugged by some of his co-passengers while he was returning home and pushed out of a train was assaulted by a group of residents on the outskirts of Jalpaiguri on Sunday night.

Mishid Hembram, 42, was roughed up as residents of Hantupara, a locality that is close to Danguajhar tea estate and near the railway station, suspected him to be a child lifter.

Kotwali police rescued him, contacted his family members in Jharkhand and asked them to take him back.

"Hembram had been to Mizoram nine months back and was returning home. From Silchar, he had boarded the Sealdah-bound Kanchanjunga Express," said a police official.

During his travel, some co-passengers offered him food. "He was drugged in a planned manner. The persons then took away his cellphone, bank passbook, some other documents and Rs 30,000 in cash. They then pushed him out of the train as it arrived in Jalpaiguri Road station on Sunday morning with his bag," the official added.

Mishid, who was in a delirious state, started roaming around throughout the day.

In the evening, he tried to get into some houses in Hantupara.

"He was asking for food and water. But seeing him behaving abnormally, some locals suspected him to be a child lifter and assaulted him. We got the information and rescued him," said the police official.
