TMC fears BJP: Dilip

Ghosh in Siliguri on Wednesday. (Passang Yolmo)
TT, Siliguri: The Bengal BJP president, Dilip Ghosh, said on Wednesday that Trinamul was considering the BJP as the biggest threat in the panchayat elections and that way why the ruling party was attacking BJP workers across the state.

The BJP leader also alleged that Trinamul was trying to grab power using state election commission as a shield.

"We have faced attacks from Trinamul at over 475 places across the state. About 1,200 BJP workers were injured in the attacks and five died. Many of the injured are getting treatment in the neighbouring state. A total of 650 BJP workers were arrested though many of them have been released on bail. Despite the Trinamul atrocities, the BJP has around 31,000 candidates for the rural polls," Ghosh said in Siliguri.

"The state government is trying to grab power in panchayats using the state election commission as a cover. Trinamul has realised that it will face the biggest challenge in the elections from the BJP and hence, its cadres are attacking on our workers."

He said there were still many in the state who were willing to contest the elections. "If they are allowed to file nominations by email, I believe more than one lakh papers will be submitted," the BJP leader said here before leaving for Ambari of Jalpaiguri for election campaign.

Ghosh said the BJP was prepared for the polls any day- maybe this month, June or July- whenever they would take place.

He said once election results were out, the BJP would emerge as a force to be reckoned with in Bengal.
