Sikkim conference on Friday
RAJEEV RAVIDAS, TT, May 04, 2018, Gangtok: The success achieved by Sikkim in organic farming is expected to feature prominently at the "International conference on biodiversity and sustainable development goals" organised by the state department of forest, environment and wildlife management at Chintan Bhavan here on Friday.
Experts from the country and abroad will participate in the day-long conference which will deliberate on the theme "sustainable livelihood and protecting the planet."
Thomas Chandy, principal secretary of state department of forest, environment and wildlife management, said the meet would have five technical sessions.
Among those attending the conference are Vandana Shiva, social activists, physicist and founder of the Research Foundation for Science, Technology, and Natural Resource Policy (RFSTN), an organisation devoted to developing sustainable methods of agriculture.
"The technical sessions will be held on biodiversity for removing poverty and doubling rural incomes, biodiversity for improving nutrition and health, biodiversity and women, biodiversity and climate change and education for sustainable living," Chandy said.
