Poll complaint against Mukul
TT, Jalpaiguri: A Jalpaiguri zilla parishad candidate of the Trinamul Congress on Sunday filed a police complaint against BJP leader Mukul Roy for allegedly violating the model code of conduct that is in force for the rural polls.
Addressing a public meeting at Ghughudanga, around 20km from here, on Saturday, Roy had said the Centre would give a smartphones to each youth in the district if BJP won the Jalpaiguri zilla parishad.
The complaint was filed by Bidhan Chandra Roy with Kotwali police station here.

Police sources said a case had been registered against the BJP leader under Sections 171 (wearing garb or carrying token used by public servant with fraudulent intent) and 171(E) (punishment for bribery) of the IPC.
"I have told police to take necessary steps," said Shilpa Gourisaria, the district magistrate of Jalpaiguri.
"If you help the BJP win the zilla parishad, the central government will give a smartphone to all youths of the district who are aged 18 years or above. The government is focussing on cashless transaction and a smartphone is required for it. That is the reason we will provide a smartphone to all youths and I believe we will win here (zilla parishad)," Mukul Roy had said.
The BJP hasn't, however, attached much important to the case.
"Trinamul leaders have also made several promises during their campaign. If they can file complaints against our leaders, we will also do so," said Dipen Pramanik, the assistant convener of the BJP in north Bengal.
